Troubleshooting

Fixes for the problems people run into most with Hop, from installing it to missing clips.

Find your problem below. If it isn't here, or the fix doesn't work, open an issue.

Installing

Windows says it protected my PC

The installer is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may warn about it. If you downloaded it from the download page or from Hop's GitHub releases, choose More info and then Run anyway.

The installer won't run

Hop needs Windows 10 version 1809 or newer, or Windows 11, on a 64-bit PC. The installer refuses to run on anything older, and on 32-bit Windows.

The old version came back after a restart

This was a bug in Hop 0.1.0 and 0.1.1, fixed in 0.1.2. Install the newest version from the download page over the one you have.

Hop Island

The island doesn't appear

First check that it is running: start Hop Island from the Start menu. If it still doesn't show, your PC may be missing the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime, which Hop Island needs. Windows 11 has it already. On Windows 10, install it from Microsoft, then start Hop Island again.

Prayer times and weather are empty

They need your city. Open the settings app with the gear on the island's last page, go to Location, and search for your city.

The prayer times are off by a few minutes

Mosques don't all calculate them the same way. In the settings app under Location, pick the calculation method your local mosque uses, and check the Asr time setting.

There is no lyric line

Lyrics are looked up on LRCLIB, once per song. A song that isn't there has no lyric line. Also check that Lyric line is on under Player page in the settings app.

The island is in the wrong place or the wrong size

Drag the island to move it, or use the snap-to-middle button on the Player page. To start over, open the settings app and use Reset size & position.

The island is missing from my screenshots

In the settings app's Clipper tab, Hop Island under "What shows up in your clips" is off. That switch hides the island from clips and from screenshots, because Windows cannot hide it from one only. Turn it back on.

Hop Clipper

Hop Clipper says F8 is already used

Another program has taken the F8 key, often another clipping tool. Hop Clipper beeps, shows this message and closes:

F8 is already used by another program (Medal?). Close it and start Hop Clipper again.

Close the other program, or change its shortcut, then start Hop Clipper again.

F8 does nothing

Hop Clipper only records while it is running. Look for the bunny in the system tray. If it isn't there, start Hop Clipper from the Start menu.

Important

A clip can only hold what was recorded while Hop Clipper was running. Right after it starts, there is less than a full clip to save.

My clips have no sound

Hop Clipper records system audio: whatever plays through your default speaker. Sound sent to a different device is not in the clip, and your microphone is not recorded.

My clips stutter, or my game runs slower

Lower the load in the settings app's Clipper tab: set Frame rate to 30 fps, which is the lightest, and Quality to Small. 120 fps needs a strong PC and a screen of 120 Hz or more.

I can't find my clips

They are saved to Videos\Hop Clips unless you chose another folder. Open clips folder, in the tray menu and in the settings app's Clipper tab, takes you there.

Reporting a problem

When you open an issue, say which version of Hop you have (it is shown under Updates in the settings app) and what you were doing. For Hop Clipper problems, attach clipper.log from %LOCALAPPDATA%\clipper.
