Quick Start

Your first five minutes with Hop: install it, meet the island, save a clip and make it yours.

This page walks you through Hop once, from the download to a look of your own. Every step links to the page with the details.

1. Install Hop

  • Windows: download HopSetup from the download page and run it. No admin rights are needed. Prefer the command line? scoop install hop/hop works too (see package managers).
  • Linux: pick the .deb, the .rpm or the AppImage. The Linux guide tells you which one you need, and has an APT and DNF repository that keeps Hop updated.

When the installer finishes, Hop Island appears at the top of your screen and Hop Clipper sits in the system tray as a bunny.

2. Open the island

Rest the mouse on the island and it opens into a page of widgets. The round tabs along the top switch pages. You can also open it from anywhere with Ctrl + Alt + Space.

Play a song in Spotify or your browser: the closed island shows what's playing, and the music widget has the controls. More about the island.

3. Save your first clip

Press F8. Hop Clipper saves the last 30 seconds of your screen, with sound, to Videos\Hop Clips. Your newest clips also show on the island. More about the clipper.

4. Arrange your pages

Open the settings (the gear on the open island) and go to Pages & widgets. Drag widgets between pages, change their sizes and add the ones you want: calendar, weather, timer, PC stats, scores and more. All the widgets.

5. Make it yours

Pick a notch or a pill, colours, a glow, an outline and a font. The quickest way is the theme gallery: copy a theme code, or build your own there, and paste it into Hop. Every option.
