Terms of Use

The terms for using Hop Island and Hop Clipper, which you accept in the installer.

Last updated: October 4, 2026. These terms cover Hop Island and Hop Clipper, made by preinfection. From the next version, the installer shows them together with a short version of the Privacy Policy, and asks you to accept them before installing. By installing or using Hop, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't install or use Hop.

The software

Hop is free, open-source software released under the MIT License. These terms add to that license. They don't take away any right it gives you, including the right to read, change and share the code.

Privacy and permissions

Hop has no accounts, analytics or telemetry, and doesn't send us your data. The Privacy Policy lists everything Hop reads and every service it contacts. In particular:

  • Location: Hop doesn't use GPS, the Windows Location service or your IP address. When Windows shows "Location in use by: Network Command Shell" or "Hop Island", it is because Windows counts reading your Wi-Fi network's name as location access. Hop reads the name for the Wi-Fi pop-up and never sends it anywhere. More about this.
  • Microphone and camera: Hop Island never records them. Hop Clipper records your microphone only if you turn on its microphone option, and saves clips only when you press F8.

No warranty

Hop is in early development and is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. It may have bugs, stop working, or lose clips or settings. Keep copies of what matters to you.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the authors and preinfection are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages, data loss, lost profits or other harm arising from installing or using Hop, or from being unable to use it. Some places don't allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

Recording responsibly

You are responsible for what you record and share with Hop Clipper. Follow the laws where you live, including laws on recording other people, calls and meetings, and copyrighted content, as well as the rules of the games and platforms you use. Get consent where the law requires it.

Third-party services

Some optional features use outside services, listed in the Privacy Policy: weather, prayer times, lyrics, album covers, sports scores, calendars, Last.fm, Anthropic, Cloudflare and GitHub. We don't run them, their own terms and privacy policies apply, and we aren't responsible for their availability, accuracy or content. Prayer times and weather are estimates: check with your local mosque or weather service when it matters.

Sharing files

A file you drop on the island to share is uploaded to mutate.lol. Anonymous uploads can be opened by anyone with the link and delete themselves after 7 days. Don't upload anything illegal, anything you don't have the right to share, malware, or other people's private information. Uploads may be removed at any time.

Extensions

Extensions are code written by other people. We don't review them and aren't responsible for what they do. Install only extensions you trust.

Updates

Hop checks GitHub for a new version when it starts and once a day, and tells you when one is out. Installing it is always your choice.

Trademarks

Hop is not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple, Microsoft, Spotify, Discord, Anthropic, ESPN or any other company whose apps or services it works with. Their names and logos belong to their owners.

Changes

These terms may change. The current version is always on this page, and the date at the top shows the latest change. If you keep using Hop after a change, you accept the new terms.

Stopping

You can stop using Hop at any time by uninstalling it: Windows Settings, Apps, Installed apps, Hop, Uninstall. See Updating and Uninstalling.
